About
EVGUENIA IGNATENKO (b. 1997, Moscow, Russia) is the fragment and the whole, transformed in the process of making and unmaking. Their task is to communicate the interconnected and fluid nature of reality by empowering audiences to make kin with thing-beings (such as clay). They explore how an individual communes with materiality through photography, movement practice, and participatory experiences, and reflect on the process through autotheoretical writing. Their research wonders: How can a deep engagement with the material re-condition us towards attunement and skilful response to the world?
Since 2016, I’ve been working with clay as a means of self expression. After living in Taiwan in from 2018-2019 and I fell in love with the art of tea and teaware, going on to train in both Chinese and Japanese tea ceremonies and completing a residency at Dream Community Taipei, where I created several tea bowls for the Japanese Tea Room. In 2021, I began teaching ceramics in Vancouver at HiDe Ceramic Works and went on to help open Vancouver Ceramics, where I managed studio operations, taught short- and long-form workshops, and produced slipcast pieces for Celsia Floral. In 2023, I relocated to London to pursue my art as a vocation, working as a studio technician at Turning Earth London, and manageing Dalston Clay. I have recently graduated with an MA in Ceramics and Glass at the Royal College of Art.
